ANKARA, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) — Türkiye aims to increase its trade volume with Oman to 5 billion U.S. dollars, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Thursday, calling it a target for the first stage but not specifying the time duration of this stage.
Erdogan made the remarks at a joint press conference with visiting Omani Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said in Ankara.
The president also expressed the country’s readiness to strengthen energy cooperation with Oman, saying, “From 2025 on, we will enter a new era in our energy cooperation with the start of liquefied gas supplies from Oman.”
Turkish contracting companies have completed 7 billion dollars worth of projects in Oman so far, Erdogan added.
For his part, Haitham, the first Omani head of state visiting Türkiye, said, “We should work hand in hand to strengthen regional cooperation. In this context, we in Oman would like to express our support for Türkiye’s position and stance on international issues concerning our region.”
During Haitham’s visit, the two sides signed 10 agreements covering key areas including investment, agriculture, health, labor, culture, diplomacy, and cooperation between their central banks and small and medium enterprises. ■
